Project description

This 37,000 square foot outpatient facility includes a rehabilitation clinic, exercise and healthy living center. More than a doctor’s office and gymnasium, the new space offers essential programming to create a healthy community.

The site is surrounded by unspoiled land, a wetland and a 17-mile network of public trails. The functional program of the facility is extended outdoors with exercise lawns, café seating and event lawns to establish connections between the building and the surrounding environment.

A state-of-the-art YMCA features heightened pops of orange to evoke energy throughout the space, and distinctive resin ceiling petals and floor patterns provide intuitive orientation throughout the building. The first floor houses cardio and strength-training equipment, with each exercise space indicated by floor type and color changes, and is overlooked by a running track on the second floor. Dedicated workout studios provide space for group exercise classes, and a “kidzone” with indoor and outdoor play space lets kids explore, play and learn while parents relax. train. The Connected Healthy Living Center is designed to house educational programs, with a dedicated classroom to teach community members how to make healthier choices, reduce chronic disease, and regain good health.

The rehabilitation clinic offers occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy services to adult and pediatric patients, directly addressing the health needs of the community by providing the region’s first full-service pediatric rehabilitation office.

The building’s distinctive exterior is consistent with the other buildings in the development, featuring “Florida Lowcountry” architecture that embraces the North Florida habitat and lifestyle. The wood-look rainscreen on the exterior of the building extends into the lobby, and the plank-and-slat walls and wood-slat ceilings also pass through from the exterior. Wall lighting in the main lobby recalls fireflies, one of the community’s motifs for monumental signage, and creates a playful connection to nature.
